Brilliante Mendoza

Brillante Mendoza's controversial and equally brilliant film, Kinatay earned him the Best Director Award at Cannes International Film Festival. As a director, he aims to show to the public the real issues in the Philippines with bravery and originality.

Brilliante Mendoza is the first Filipino indie filmmaker who bagged the Best Director Award at the recent Cannes International Film Festival.

Though the neo-realist film underwent a rollercoaster censorship issues, Mendoza never lose hope that his film will be shown in his homeland, which eventually was approved by the government. Mendoza's films are usually based on the happenings in the Philippine society. His award-winning film Kinatay received praise from veteran directors Quentin Tarantino and Sean Penn.

Mendoza's sensitivity to socio-economic issues is the foundations of his films that he hopes will stir consciousness and action from the public and the government.

He has filmed a total of eight movies since he started in 2005.
